This was my first documentary, produced back in 1989. It's production was initiated by Peter Meisen, the founder of Global Energy Network Institute (GENI) with the support of the Money & You graduates. Unfortunately, the issues presented in the movie segments below such as: environmental pollution; climate change and greenhouse effects; poverty and lack of health-care in many countries; the enormous world energy requirements and increasing population growth are even more relevant today. In fact, it is vital they are addressed by governments for our children's future! The GENI proposal can make a viable and real contribution to the creation of peace and prosperity for everyone on the planet! The video was introduced by John Denver, which was filmed in Sydney, Australia. The launch of the video was at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, Australia in November 1989.

“…this video offers a unique solution to many of our current global problems… creating a focus for global co-operation."

The Late John Denver,

International singer & environmentalist.

"The video has become

a sensational success overseas, it has made

a major difference

to introducing this

proposal (world-wide).”

Peter Meisen, Founder/President, Global Energy Network Institute

I wrote a song that was performed at the launch called, "What of the World Turned Around?"

Overview

The GENI Initiative focuses on linking renewable energy resources around the world using international electricity transmission. Decades ago, visionary engineer Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller developed the World Game simulation, posing the question:

"How do we make the world work for 100% of humanity in the shortest possible time through spontaneous cooperation without ecological damage or disadvantage to anyone?"

Research shows that the premier global strategy is the interconnection of electric power networks between regions and continents into a global energy grid, with an emphasis on tapping abundant renewable energy resources — a world wide web of electricity.

The benefits of this sustainable development world power

solution are proven:

  • Decreased pollution from fossil and nuclear fuels.
  • Reduced hunger and poverty in developing nations
  • Increased trade, cooperation and world peace
  • Enables health care, communications and access to clean water
  • Stabilized population growth

The above Overview is from the Global Energy Network Institute web site.

"What if the World Turned Around"

Words & Music by Anatole Kononewsky, 1989

I wrote the song, "What if the World Turned Around", especially for the launch of the documentary, "What If... A New Global Option". The song was recorded and produced in 1989 at a back-yard studio in Bondi Junction, Sydney, Australia with a close friend and great singer/ musician, Kevin Bennett. (A very basic home music video was produced using the footage from the documentary.)

The song is based around its chorus, "What if the world turned around and said, isn't it enough?" An extremely important question for our future of this planet and our children.

It is a view of the essential unity between all of life on our planet. When we begin to see ourselves connected to everyone and everything, we see that anything we do to others and the planet, we do to ourselves. The question that arises from this point of view, especially with respect to the effects of climate change and environmental pollution, is:

When does it become economically viable for our children's future to stop destroying our planet?
